Every farm family has one: the back field that slowly turned to brush. Reclaiming it is one of the highest-value projects we do, and the sequence matters more than the machinery.
Step one is the walkthrough. We flag keeper trees, check for old fence wire hidden in the brush (it wrecks mulcher drums), and map wet spots. Step two is the main clearing pass. Step three — the one people skip — is dealing with stumps at graze-safe height and processing the piles.
Step four is seed and rest. Mulched ground takes grass seed beautifully, and most reclaimed pastures show solid establishment within one growing season.
Done right, reclamation costs a fraction of buying new ground — and the family gets its field back.
